1940s


Doyle ’39 and Paulene Moddrell Barnett ’40 are retired and living in Walla Walla, Washington. The couple served as missionaries for 42 years in China and the Far East. Paulene opened the first Lamb Shelter when she was working as the Sabbath School director for the Southeast Asia Union. Doyle worked as the Union stewardship and personal ministries director.

Jackie Faucher Beck ’45 is retired and lives with her husband Edwin in Desert Hot Springs, Arizona during the winter months. Their permanent address is in College Place, Washington. They have three grown children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

1950s


Lena Moore Escandon ’53 is married to Ralph Escandon, and they live in Angwin, California. Lena teaches beginning Spanish at Pacific Union College and also teaches at the PUC Elementary School, grades K-8. She wrote A Guide for Teachers, a bilingual guide to teach both English to Spanish-speaking students, and vice versa.

Arthur E. Westphal ’53 is a carpenter living in Angwin, California. He is married to Betty Thompson Westphal, and they have three grown children.

1960s


Evaline West ’60 retired from teaching and is an emeritus professor of social work at Pacific Union College in Angwin, California. She also has a small clinical practice.

Valeetah Coulter Motschiedler ’61 has been married to Edward Motschiedler for 41 years. They live in Columbia, Maryland, and have three grown children and three grandchildren. She has worked in a variety of nursing jobs and has also taught nursing for 26 years. She retired in 2006 from Montgomery College, Silver Spring, Maryland, where she was professor of nursing for seven years.

1970s


Chuck ’76 and Sherri Ivey ’74 Dart live in Riverside, California. Chuck is director of marketing and recruitment for Loma Linda University. Sherri does group benefits full time for Independent Associates Legal Services, Inc. They have two grown children.

Stanley Patterson ’77 is vice president for pastoral ministries and evangelism for the Georgia-Cumberland Conference. He graduated from Andrews University in August 2007 with a PhD in leadership and administration. He lives with his wife, Glenda, in Sugar Valley, Georgia. He has  three daughters, one son, and six grandchildren.

1980s


Daniel Allen ’80 lives in Lodi, California, with his wife Suzane and two children. He works as a senior system programmer for Serena Software.

Keith Hardy ’83
was elected to the St. Paul, Minnesota school board in 2007. He is a mentor, an ultra-marathon runner and president of the Twin Cities Tall Club. He is also the first black to serve on the St. Paul school board since 2005.

Heber Lacerda ’89 is CEO of Regency Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers in Victoria, Texas. He became one of the city’s newest American citizens during a naturalization ceremony in Corpus Christi, Texas, on March 12, 2008.

1990s


Jolene Dart Rogers ’91 is a kindergarten teacher at South Bay Junior Academy, in Redondo Beach, California. She is married to Kent Rogers. 

Jaime Gonzalez ’92 was recently selected as Officer of the Year of the Bartlesville Police Department. He lives in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, with his wife Jennifer. They have four children.

Lori Brenneise ’94 teaches third grade at the National School of Aleppo in northwest Syria, just two hours from Iraq, where she has been for four years. She says she feels safer walking alone on the worst streets of Aleppo than she does in many parts of the U.S. A self-described history buff, she started looking for jobs in the Middle East well before the September 11 attacks. She describes Syria as marked by little violence, and little, if any, strife between religious groups.

Wes Tolhurst ’95 is the senior pastor of the Nerang Adventist Church, on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. He has been married for eight years to Melissa Tolhurst. They have two children.
Winston Bascom ’65 designed and helped dedicate a water fountain at Mena Regional Health System in Mena, Arkansas, on May 11, 2007.

Kristin Netteburg Priest ’98 is associate director of programs, and is also serving as interim director of Philanthropic Service for Institutions. In addition, Kristin has also just received her Certified Fund Raising Executive. She lives with her husband Michael, in Bethesda, Maryland.

Chris LeBrun ’99 lives with his wife Suzanne Wagner LeBrun ’96 in Niles, Michigan. He was promoted to director of development at Andrews University. They have two sons.

2000s


Melissa Robbins Juhl ’00 is currently a barista at Starbucks, and is studying to be an ultrasound technician. She lives with her husband Ben in Salem, Oregon.

Richard ’00 and Kara Saunders ’02 Castillo
live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with their daughter. Kara is a middle school teacher at the Kenneth Cooper Middle School. She taught five years in the Adventist school system as a head teacher and principal. Richard works for Clear Channel at one of the largest radio stations in Oklahoma.

Joe ’02 and Amanda Solomon ’03 Perry
live in San Bernardino, California. Amanda is annual giving coordinator at Loma Linda University Medical Center; and Joe is an intern at Loma Linda University.

Tasha Park Pizarro ’03 is a seventh- and eighth-grade teacher at the Vienna Adventist Academy in Annadale, Virginia. She is married to Alex Pizarro and they have one son.

Michelle Bernal ’04 is a graduate student at Loma Linda University. She is currently working for the LLUSD Educational Support Services.

William ’04 and Adelaide Jones ’04 Klinke live in Fredericksburg, Texas, where William is a pastor. Adelaide is the first SWAU graduate to be inducted into the social work national honor society.

Amy Jessica Protasio ’05 works as a library associate in information services in Pasadena, Maryland. She is currently working on her master’s degree in communication in contemporary society at John Hopkins University.

Amy Burt ’06 is the marketing coordinator for Moore & Assistants in Valencia, California.

Christa Palit ’06 lives in Burleson, Texas, and has a master’s degree in business administration.  She successfully completed the CPA exam in Texas in 2007. She works with the General Conference Auditing Service in the Burleson office.

A.J. Church ’07
recently had his essay “Lingering Cloud” published in the book Believing in Greatness, an anthology of essays by young writers, published by Elder and Leemaur Publishers. He currently is studying nursing at Walla Walla University.
